EVENT DESCRIPTION
Cleft lip and cleft palate (the roof of the mouth) are amongst the most common birth defects which occur when a baby’s facial structures do not develop fully during pregnancy. It causes a child’s lip or mouth not to not fuse together properly. Together these are known as “orofacial clefts”, and a child may have either one or both of these.
At a minimum, at least one surgery is needed to repair the lip and a separate surgery is needed to repair the palate.
However, several surgeries are needed to make the lip appear as normal as possible and sometimes additional surgeries involving the palate are needed to improve speech.
Creek General Hospital has carried out these procedures of Cleft Palate and Cleft Lip free-of-cost, where many parents from remote areas of Pakistan get treated.
All patients are treated free of cost in collaboration with “Smile Train Pakistan”.
So far we have performed over 650 Free Cleft lip and Palate Surgeries.
